As March comes to an end, it brings with it the annual commemoration of Women’s History Month —a time to reflect on the remarkable achievements and contributions of women across various fields and disciplines. In the realm of finance and business, where the figures often speak louder than words, the presence and impact of women have been increasingly significant. Within this domain, the role of women in accounting stands out as a testament to their prowess, resilience, and invaluable contributions to the profession.
Historically, the field of accounting has been predominantly male dominated. However, as societal norms evolved and barriers were dismantled, women began to carve out their place in this essential sector. Despite facing numerous challenges and systemic biases, women have risen to prominent positions within accounting firms, corporate finance departments, and regulatory bodies worldwide.
Did you know that half of our Partners at Duffy Kruspodin are female? “At DK, we don’t just talk about diversity and inclusion – we live it, recognizing that our differences are our greatest strength,” says Daisy Hom, CPA. Over 50% of our CPAs on staff are female, and women make up 70% of our managers and supervisors. It is our small way of breaking barriers, pushing the norm, and creating an environment where talent thrives regardless of gender. This commitment to equality and progress defines who we are and sets us apart as leaders in our industry.
We understand the importance of diversifying our perspective – unique insights and experiences enrich discussions, foster innovation, and only enhance our adaptability in an ever-changing business environment. Through the DK Mentorship Program, networking opportunities, and advocacy efforts, we understand that we play a critical role inspiring mentees and supporting the advancement of women in the field. We hope to not only empower individuals within our company and within our industry, but also contribute to broader economic growth and stability.
Women in accounting embody fortitude, excellence, and leadership. Their journey reflects the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the triumph of talent and determination over adversity. This Women’s History Month, and here at DK, we will continue to put in the work to champion the cause of women in accounting, ensuring that their voices are heard, their talents recognized, and their contributions celebrated not just this month, but every day of the year.
