You just filed your taxes… Now What?

Now that the May 17 deadline has come and gone, there is no time
like the present to begin looking for ways to reduce your 2021 tax bill.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Are you in a lower tax bracket than last year? Consider a Roth IRA conversion for a piece (or all) of your IRA.
If you have a Flexible Spending Account, check the balance to make sure you are on track to use it completely. You can only carry over $500 into 2022 and any unused money will be lost. Check your plan for specific rules.
Take a look at your dividends on your tax return. Qualified dividends get better tax treatment than non-qualified. Are there ways to reposition your investments to get higher participation in qualified dividends?
If you received a refund, consider directing it to a 529 College Savings Plan for your children or grandchildren.
How will the proposed income and estate tax changes impact you? The new legislation will affect more than just ultra-wealthy individuals and business owners. The need for proper planning is more important than ever.
